The history of gambling goes way back. It is said that even the ancient Greek gods were rolling the dices when they split heaven, hell and sea between them.

It is hard to say if this s true or not, but it is a fact that gambling has been around practically since the dawn of time. Archeological evidence suggests that the early cavemen were in fact gamblers. Cavedrawings and dice-like items have been found at archelogical excavations proving that these ancient wild men enjoyed a game at times.
Gambling has been spotted in both ancient Greek, Egyptian, Roman and Chinese cultures. These cultures were civilized enough to have the time and means to think up actual games with rules and even prizes. Some would say that gambling has not even evolved that much since then.
Ever since then gambling has held a place in many peoples hearts and minds. Through the ages gambling has been used for its fair share of purposes. As a pastime – of course – and as a living for some even back then. Native tribes threw dice-like object to predict the future of their activities and faith. Later on national lotteries spread as plague over the countries as they were incredibly popular. The Wild West was actually pretty wild – also when talking about gambling.
In the middle of the 18th century the first gambling places resembling the casinos of our time opened their doors for the first time. Giving the customers what they wanted, these – at first – primitive casinos grew both larger in sie and in the games on offer. Passer bys and foreigners brought their games and traditions along and the casinos adopted these exotic games as well, just to add to their gaming suites. And the gambling venues just grew and grew.
Gambling Today
Today, the industry has further evolved by offering a host of online opportunities as well as the glimmering casinos of Vegas, Atlantic City and other gambling oases of the world. The online casinos and the brick and mortar casinos of today offer anything a gambler could ever wish for; perfect settings, loads of games, fantastic prizes, great services… The list is almost endless!
What the next step in the history of gambling will be is hard to tell. But no matter what, gambling has been around for ever and it is not going away. That is for sure! And maybe you have not even seen the best of it yet!
A funny thing about gambling is that for just as long as gambling has existed, cheating in games has been a popular pastime as well. The old pompeians were avid gamblers, but among the ruins and the vulcanic ashes are found dices that were made to give a certain outcome more often than another. Gambling and cheating must be inextricably linked, but as long as you take your precautions you will not be the one who falls for old tricks like these.
